CHRONOBIOLOGY

Over the last 40 years research undertaken in chronobiology by various international scientist teams have shown how mankind’s physiological systems follow internal rhythms regulated by a set of biological clocks and biological rythms.

These new findings have already been implemented in numerous medical fields because all physiological, immunological and neuro-psychological activities can be characterized by biological rhythms.

A biological rhythm is defined as a period corresponding to a lapse of time separating two identical phenomena. During this lapse of time the biological phenomenon presents a maximum activity peak, and a minimum low.

These biological rhythms are repeated and thus predictable.

They follow a daily pattern within a monthly pattern linked to a woman’s 28-day menstrual cycle.

The introduction of the notion of chronobiology in the array of skin care treatments offered by dermo-cosmetology is the direct consequence of the findings on how the skin is organized in terms of time sequences. These last few years, the scientific basis of Chronocosmetology has been significantly enriched with new data on the skin's circadian rhythms.

In the skin’s case, such elements as the skin’s thickness, cellular regenerative activity, micro-circulation, acidity, elasticity and water content, evolve throughout the day as they do throughout the menstrual cycle.

KLYTIA has chosen to take these evolutions into account, because they can have a great impact in terms of cosmetic efficiency; just as they have been taken into account for many years now in drug prescriptions in hospitals and in dietetic advice, as taking these rhythms into account enhances the effective treatments in these fields.
